What does it mean to be in “Band?”

Band is a fun program that includes experiences in Concert Band, Marching Band, and small ensemble performance.  Additional opportunities are available for students interested in jazz band, color guard, and indoor drumline.

The question isn’t “WHY?”...

-The chance to gain hundreds of new friends and make memories that will last a lifetime.

-The opportunity to develop skills in musicianship, leadership, team building, time management, determination, and communication.

- A Concert Band consistently rated at the highest level in Ohio

-An award winning Jazz Band that has won gold medals at jazz festivals in New York and Georgia

-A State Champion and Regional Medalist Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion Line

- A Marching Band that has earned awards including Grand Champion awards at the state level, a gold medal at a Regional Championship, and a silver medal at the National Championship.

...It’s “WHY NOT?!?”

You’ve Got Questions?...We’ve got answers!!

Can I be in band if I play sports?

YES!  The CCHS band staff will work with you and your coaches to make sure that you are able to

participate in the band program and your sport. These arrangements will look a bit different for each

student, so make sure you contact Mr. McNutt, Mr. Hallas, or Mr. Hubbell for details on how this situation

can be tailored to fit your specific needs.  Every year there are many students at CCHS who participate

fully in sports and band.

Do I have to be in marching band?

Band at Central Crossing is a full year course that includes performance opportunities in marching and

concert ensembles.  The marching band portion of the curriculum concludes in November, with the

remainder of the year spent indoors with the concert band.  It is not possible to break the class into

separate units, taking only marching band or only concert band.  We are sure, as are the hundreds of

students currently enrolled, that you will find marching band to be a very rewarding and worthwhile

activity in which to participate.

Is gym credit available for participating in band?

YES!  Any student participating in marching band/color guard will automatically receive credit for gym;

that means you don’t have to go to gym class during school!  What a great deal, huh!?!

Does marching band take up all of my summer vacation?

The band does practice during the summer to prepare for the 4th of July Parade and the fall marching

season.  However, there will still be plenty of time for relaxing, family vacations, and jobs during the

summer.  A detailed calendar of all summer dates will be passed out to students in the next several weeks.

Any conflicts regarding these dates would need to be communicated with the CCHS band directors; they

are always willing to work with you to help you participate.

Do you have to audition for band?

All students actively participating in middle school band will be eligible to participate in the high school

band program.  Auditions for concert band placement will occur prior to the start of the concert band

season, but all students have a place in the CCHS band family!

Is there a jazz band at Central Crossing?  When does it meet?

Jazz band is a curricular class that meets during the school day at Central Crossing.  Auditions may be

necessary to determine which of the jazz ensembles you participate in, but any band student wishing to

join jazz band may do so.  You will need to sign up for jazz band on your schedule if you wish to join.

Can I be in jazz band and not regular band?

Students participating in the jazz band are also members of the band program at CCHS.  You may be able

to play a different instrument in the jazz band, but will be expected to participate in band on your primary

instrument.

How much does band cost?

There are fees associated with participation in the band program at CCHS, and there will be a parent

meeting in the spring detailing those costs.  However, there are numerous opportunities for you to earn

money; many students pay NOTHING because of their participation in money-making opportunities.

Money should not be a factor in this decision, as there will always be ways of financing your participation.

Want to start raising funds to help the band provide you an experience of a lifetime? Get involved now!
Visit our booster event sign-up page to volunteer for events that will add money to your student account AND help fund the incredible experiences you will have in the CCHS band. You DO NOT have to be a current high school student to get started! http://www.freewebs.com/marchcometsmarch/index.htmshapeimage_2_link_0

Do the ensembles at CCHS travel?

YES!!  In recent years, students in the CCHS marching band, concert band, winter color guard, and winter

drumline have made trips to Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, New York, and Georgia.  A trip to Florida is

even in the works for the 2010-2011 school year!  Traveling is one of the most enjoyable parts of

participating in the music program at CCHS!
